What is the Difference Between Performance360 and CrossFit?

If you have ever looked at Performance360 and thought, “Isn’t this just another CrossFit gym?” Let’s clear that up right now.

No.

To be honest, not even a little bit close. Sure, some of the superficial visuals may bear a resemblance to “CrossFit style training”, but underneath the hood the bones and DNA of our two approaches to fitness are vastly different.

How do we know this? Because candidly, about 40% of former CrossFitters who come to P360 can’t stand our differences and return to their CrossFit box at around 90 days.

Just being honest.

Here are the major differences that set our two concepts apart.

1. We Train with Structure, Not Randomness

CrossFit is built on the idea of “constantly varied” workouts. Every day is different with no connection to the one before or after it. As a result, there is no clear path, no predictable structure, and no focused cycle. That might keep things exciting, but it rarely delivers long-term progress in the same manner that a structured program does.

» At Performance360, we run focused five-week training cycles. You get consistent exposure to the right lifts and movement patterns so your body can actually adapt and improve. We program with intent, not randomness and at the end of each cycle you see undeniable progression and progress.

All while keeping variety in mind week-over-week. The result is a program that has a plan and delivers it in way that is engaging and gives you that FOMO feeling if you miss a workout.

2. We Develop Functional Muscle, Not Gymnastics

Sorry, folks. You will not find kipping pull-ups, handstand walks, or ring muscle-ups in our classes. Those are high-skill gymnastics movements that offer little return for most people and often cause more harm than good through the process of trying to learn them.

» Instead of spending months on end (sometimes years) trying to learn a skill you will never once use in your life, we replaced them with functional bodybuilding. The development of athletic muscle that you’ll put to use daily.

Think strict pull-ups, tempo work on the barbell, compound DB movements like a supported row or Arnold press , and unilateral training like step ups, lateral lunges, and more.

These movements build muscle, improve joint health, and create real-world strength that carries over into your everyday life.

we can extract from them, not to participate or develop in a skill.

3. We Prioritize Power, Not Complexity

At Performance360, we choose movements based on what we can extract from them — not to master a skill just for the sake of it.

» For example, that’s why you’ll see us perform hang power cleans instead of full clean and jerks. The hang power clean is easier to learn, easier to perform under fatigue, and easier to apply force. It allows more people to safely train explosive power without needing months of technical development. These variations are safer, easier to learn, and still deliver all the explosive power and strength benefits without the risk or complexity.

The full clean and jerk is a high-skill Olympic lift that demands elite mobility, timing, and years of practice. Most people don’t need that. They need a way to develop speed, coordination, and power that actually carries over to their performance.

It’s not a matter of shade against the full lift. We simply choose movements that give you the maximum return for your effort.

4. We Train Together, Not Against Each Other

From shared barbells to the partner efforts, everything at P360 is designed to extract the best personal effort through support, not pressure.

CrossFit thrives on competition. Leaderboards. Timed finishes. Racing to beat the person next to you. That works for some, but it creates a culture of individualism that can quickly push people into bad decisions, poor form, and insecurities.

At Performance360, we certainly have our competitive elements (i.e. Time Trials, “Finals Week” benchmarks”), but the vibe is team training, not me-training.

» 90% of our workouts are all intentionally designed to finish at the same time rather than racing style like CrossFit. Those with a higher level of fitness will simply achieve more personal volume at heavier loads than those just developing. But the takeaway is there is no first place in our workouts and more importantly, there is no last place.

You are surrounded by teammates, not rivals. Coaches, not rep checkers.

5. We Don’t Just Hammer You With Max Intensity

We feature days that have varying effort levels depending on the spectrum of intensity on which we are working. For example, we might have a strength day that is more slowed down with an emphasis on tempo on load. Or, we might have an aerobic power day with a long form 35 minute workout where you need to sustain a Zone 2/3 effort.

Of course, we feature plenty of Zone 4 (CrossFit’s usually favorite zone), but we make sure to place that strategically in your work so that it doesn’t fry the rest of your weekly training opportunities.

» If you’re an intensity junkie who needs to be layed out on the floor every single workout, that isn’t the type of fitness theater we deliver. We want you improved everyday and able to sustain fitness long term, and that means varying intensity levels.

Final Recommendation:

If you want a high competitive environment, workouts that offer more variety that structure, training at closer to peak intensity, and a focus on high skill movements like gymnastics and Olympic weightlifting, we recommend that CrossFit is likely the better path for you.

If you want a program with more longevity, training structure, barbell movements with a better return and less risk, training at varied intensities based on focus, and a supportive team atmosphere, then it is 100% time to see what Performance360 is all about.

Both programs work well. We just don’t wish to be confused with the other one.
