Variety: The Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing

Time economy is a concept that we put at the forefront of our program design. What are you achieving in the amount of time you are here? If we’re going to expect you to drive to and from the gym regularly, we’re going to make damn sure that we’re going to earn your presence.

So how do we that?

I’ll answer first with what we don’t do: fluff. You know all the crap extra curricular movement you see in places like F45, Orange Theory, and studios that simply try to keep you moving long enough for your watch to fool you into thinking you had a good workout? These places have to throw in 14 different movements because they’ve sold you on the idea of a 45 minute workout and know you’ll get bored over that time frame if you’re not constantly switching it up to a new movement. Said another way, they need to program in movements that you can continue to perform in order to fulfill the process of a 45 minute, 600 calorie burning workout. It’s movement that promises challenges yet achieves an aesthetic stripped away of muscle and with a worse metabolism. It’s “variety” and it’s a wolf in sheep’s clothing. (This is the same reason why we don’t make Grassroots PLYO longer. It ain’t needed, fam.)

Instead, we prefer time economy and a return on your investment by primarily training big, loaded ‘compound movements’, which are those that train two or more primary joints at a time and that reason is simple. When you engage bigger movements you engage bigger muscles. When you engage bigger muscles like the quads, hamstrings, glutes, and lats, you burn more muscles because those muscles are more metabolically active, and you also build more muscle and develop more strength all while increasing your body’s resting metabolic rate (how many calories you burn daily). Those are facts, not opinion.

Our mission has been and will continue to be to encourage you to spend as little time in the gym as possible to get intended benefit (minimum effective dosing). It’s not short for short’s sake. It’s efficacy without the negative metabolic blowback. We want you to be out in the world, enjoying your strength, ability, and confidence for all to see. Not obsessing over calories burned and grinding away at the gym chasing a target that isn’t deserving of your efforts.

Exercise science favors the economical, not the exhaustive.
