Hello all and happy Monday. We’ve got a variety of things today, some exciting new products and events and also reaction to some sad news. All in all, we’ve got a full plate as usual so let’s get right to it.
We’re also excited to start including local restaurants who have healthy recipes in part of our ‘Lean Eats’ section of the newsletter. We’ll be featuring Sneak Joint next week and their new summer menu.
I’m also going to apologize in advance for any typos that might show up this week. We were forced to knock this one out pretty quickly and didn’t have sufficient time to proof it.
Military/SDPD Appreciation Month
This weekend was a pretty tragic weekend if you were paying attention to the news. Our military lost a helicopter of 31 Americans serving abroad and while I have no idea what the details are, we just know that it’s tragic and incredibly sad.
To make matters worse, San Diego Police Department lost an officer on Saturday afternoon to a shooting. In what seems to be an incredibly senseless act, SDPD last one of their own for what I believe to be just the second time in almost eight years. Our thoughts are with Officer Jeremy Henwood’s family and the entire force.
Since P360 is proud to have both military and SD law enforcement as members (as well as our close personal friends), we’d like to offer the entire extended police and military family free training for the rest of August. If you would like to invite your friends in that community, go for it and we’ll put it on the house.
August Event: P360 Games
We like to try and even out the unfortunate news with something light and fun, so we’re excited to announce the first P360 Games Saturday, August 20th.
No, these Games have nothing to do with how much you can deeadlift or how many pull-ups you can do in three minutes, but it has everything to do with how good you are at cornhole, beer pong, tug of war, tipsy SUP races and flip cup.
For more info and to RSVP, check it out here.
It’s going to be a helluva an afternoon with tons of fun provided so come on, come all!
Surf n’ Turf Boot Camp
Our first Surf n’ Turf SUP Boot Camp was a complete success. We had all levels out there and everyone got some real benefit out of the class. It was about 50% on water and 50% on land and we had a great time hitting the bay for some hard paddling on Friday night. We had some people on their feet the whole time and others taking a dip pretty frequently! But every person had fun and got some serious core and balance work. Not to mention some great strength and toning to shoulders.
Here are some pics from Friday’s class!
These classes are going to fill up quickly and we are giving first shot at next class to those who missed Friday.
We are working out the logistics for the next class but we’ll let you know as soon as we figure it out.
As a reminder, the first time you try it is free!
July Gift Card Winner
Congratulations to Catherine Malone for winning July’s $30 Trader Joe’s Gift Card Lottery! Cat made it in by referring a new member as well as making it on the Shout Out! board. Cat, collect your winnings next time you are at class.
Additionally, the trivia question winner for last week’s ‘how many bananas question’ actually produced a tie! Laura Stomber guessed 26 pounds and Nick Cadiente guessed 28 pounds. Since average American consumes 27 pounds of bananas per year they both get an entry into the August lottery.
Speaking of Member Shout outs…
As a reminder, yoga will be available tomorrow morning at 6:30 am with out awesome instructor, Sarah Redding. First class is always free so there is absolutely no reason not to try it out! Your return visits are $10 drop-ins and just $19/month to add unlimited yoga to any package that you have.
Here are the new yoga times.
- Tuesday, 6:30 am
- Thursday, 6:30 pm
Member Shout Outs!
Ugh…I am still figuring this here iPhone so apparently I set the pictures on ‘can’t read’ setting. But, regardless the accomplishments below are all impressive and worthy of some serious recognition.
- Jason Weber pulled 475 pounds on deadlift breaking his own P360 recprd!
- Alex Vekich is getting stronger and stronger and most recently hang cleaned 65 pounds for 10 reps!
- Tori Hoffman has come every weekday for two weeks straight fighting through the ‘first timer’ soreness in the process. That is no small task.
- Chris Cisek finally broke past his own barrier and not only reached his goal of a sub-5:20 mile, but crushed it at 5:07!
Good Eats: Almond-Battered Fried Chicken
I am really excited to share this one with you guys. It’s an awesome recipe I came across last week that I immediately had to try. My family is originally from Kentucky farms and I grew up eating the likes of cheese grits, bacon green beans, fried chicken and the likes so to find a healthy alternative that could be consumed weekly was near and dear to my heart.
- 2 lbs., chicken tenders
- 10 oz., almond meal (at Trader Joe’s)
- 2 TBSP, coconut oil
- 3 eggs
- hot sauce, salt and pepper
Whisk the eggs in a bowl and pour the almond meal onto a flat plate. Season the chicken with salt, pepper and hot sauce and then dip into the egg wash. From there, liberally coat each tender in almond meal for the batter and pan fry in coconut oil for 8-10 minutes until golden brown.
We are going to be changing the morning classes across the board next week, going with 6:30 and 7:30 Monday through Friday. The 6:30 time has proven to be very popular and since everything we do is member driven, we’re going to suck it up, set the alarm clock 30 minutes earlier and open up that 6:30 am time every day.
Daily Challenge Schedule
Here’s a look at this week’s class breakdown for those who plan in advance what they prefer to come to.
