Eric has been a solid member since Day 1. In the time of his membership, Eric has taken his athletic foundation and built some new strength on top of what he came in with. Recently we have seen both huge Deadlift and Back Squat PRs, and Eric has found himself writing his name on the board for Level 4 Barbell Club, our highest club for gauging strength. He works hard, has goals, and more importantly asks questions and truly applies what he learns from the coaches. We are super stoked to showcase Eric and his achievements, and very excited to see where the rest of the year takes him.
How old are you, and where are you from? I am 27 and I am originally from northern Virginia but mostly I grew up in the bay area in Danville.
What do you do for work? I work for Progressive Insurance in claims.
What do you do for fun outside of P360? I really like anything outdoors, watching The Office on repeat, playing any sport there is, hanging out with my wife and our dog Colby.
How has P360 affected your life? P360 has been the most effective and fun fitness I have been a part of. I love the classes and grinding out hard work with other people. I am as strong as I have ever been and every time I sign up for a class it is often the thing I look forward to the most for that day. As a type 1 diabetic I can see a tangible effect of the workouts on my blood sugar and ability to maintain good tight control.
What are your favorite, and least favorite exercises? I love clean and jerk, squatting, and KB swings. My least favorite is pull-ups and burpees.
What is the hardest thing you have done, physically, in the gym? I can’t remember the name of the workout but it was 6 rounds of overhead KB swings and running for time. I got absolutely smoked.
What is your most proud achievement at P360? Probably Level 4 barbell club just a few days ago.
What is a hidden talent of yours? I have more useless trivia knowledge than I can use or is healthy. My wife and I and our friends have an assortment of gift certificates to bars in San Diego from our trivia wins.
What is an embarrassing fact most people don’t know about? I am a massive Harry Potter nerd, read the books 20+ times each. I can open any book to any page and pick right up like I just read the previous page.
If money was no concern, what would be your dream job? Probably coaching high school football
What is the biggest overall improvement you’ve made, since joining P360? Deadlift for sure, I had a 95# PR last month.
What is the most valuable piece of coaching you’ve received? Coach Dusty and I had the Saturday after P360 prom to ourselves at PB and were working on jerks, he told me “Hey, just be faster”, good life advice I think.
Which public figure or celebrity would you put in the dunk tank? Anyone with the last name Kardashian
What’s your favorite place to eat in San Diego? The dumpling inn and shanghai saloon
What famous person (alive or not) would you most like to have a drink with and what would you buy them? I would get an Old Fashioned with Frank Sinatra, that would be the classiest s*** of all time.
If you had one movie on a deserted island what would it be? Rush Hour 2
What’s a funny story from your childhood? I was playing monkey in the middle with my brother and a friend and hit my brother in the mouth with the ball and knocked out his front tooth accidentally. I went inside to nonchalantly ask my mom for help looking for his tooth in the grass. She flipped her lid.
What’s your favorite naughty food? Ice cream all day. Although I have a huge sweet tooth and will eat nearly any dessert there is.
If you could travel to any point in the past, where would you go? The 1760s and be a pirate of the Caribbean.
What’s your favorite thing about training at P360? I really appreciate the knowledge and kindness of all the coaching staff, I really like to be pushed and to see what I can do when I am out of my comfort zone, P360 puts me there nearly every day I train.
What is your biggest goal moving into 2018? I really want to improve my cardio, I think that is one of my biggest weaknesses.
Lauren has been on the coaching radar for the entirety of her membership. She came into P360 ready to go and wanting to see herself truly #BecomeMore. In the last month (and for maybe 3 months straight) we have seen Lauren achieve Level 2 Barbell Club, Level 2 Flight, and PRs in her Deadlift, Jerk, Back Squat, Push Press, and probably a few other things we’re missing. With her dedication, pure enjoyment of the process, and impressive application of coaching, we are positive this is only the beginning of her success. Congratulations on an overall huge first half of 2018 Lauren!
How old are you, and where are you from?
I will be turning 32 this month (birthday month!!) and I am born and raised in San Diego
What do you do for work?
I am a compliance advisor for San Diego Gas and Electric… I interpret rules and regulations from the State of California and ensure compliance with SDGE
maintenance and inspection program ZZZZzzzzzz
What do you do for fun outside of P360?
Nothing can beat laying around on the couch with my dogs and husband on the weekend watching TV. Besides that, my husband and I are really into riding and camping in Glamis, CA. Riding season is October – April and we try to go 10x a season. I also volunteer for a local pitbull rescue organization.
How has P360 affected your life?
I felt like I was spinning my wheels at the gym and personal trainer I previously had. I was spending A LOT of money with little to no strength advancement. I was really unhappy, there was no rhyme or reason to the programming and there was a lot of overturn with new members for the gym’s “weight loss challenge” that happened multiple times a year. However, I was hesitant to leave and join P360 at first since I live in El Cajon and work in Kearny Mesa. Now looking back, I wish I would have made the move sooner. I can’t say enough about this community. I have never once felt like an outcast or that there were “clicks” and I love how everyone cheers each other on. I have added 40lbs to my back squat, probably 50+lbs to my deadlift and feel stronger with cardiovascular endurance than I ever have in the 11 months since I have joined. The coaches are all amazing and the knowledge they spew out every class is just incredible. And then you add the podcast with Dave’s daily blog post, cherry on top.
What are your favorite, and least favorite exercises?
I have a love/hate relationship with the PPBs. I love testing myself but I hate the I get anxiety from it. I also hate cardio, specifically running and burpees.
My favorite exercises are any of the lifts, deadlifts, squats, cleans, jerks, snatches. I love the strong feeling I get when I lift barbells that weighs more than I do.
What is the hardest thing you have done, physically, in the gym?
Anything cardio and time related. I always feel like I am going to die afterwards
What is your most proud achievement at P360?
Member of the month is high up there but I have to say adding 40lbs on my back squat on the last week of May was really exciting for me. I have never been able to add more than 135lbs and hitting 175 almost had me in tears.
What is a hidden talent of yours?
I don’t know if this is really a talent but I have the ability to eat the same thing day in, day out for months on end and not get bored.
What is an embarrassing fact most people don’t know about?
I am really bad at idioms, like really bad. Don’t cry over spilt soda…..
If money was no concern, what would be your dream job?
To be Tia Maria Torres (show on animal planet Pitbulls and Parolees). I would love to have my own animal sanctuary, like best friends in Utah, specially rescuing pitbulls from the high euthanasia animal shelters and dog fighting busts. I would hire a team to rehabilitate the dogs in need and place them in loving forever homes. My husband and I currently have 2 rescue pitbulls that we have rescued from Hesperia and Downey Animal Shelter. Both dogs were on the 48 hour euthanasia list because the shelter was full and they had been there for 30 days.
What is the biggest overall improvement you’ve made, since joining P360?
Form. The little tweaks from the trainers have really made a difference
What is the most valuable piece of coaching you’ve received?
Julianne and Mark have really helped me with improving my form! The advice that has stuck the most though was Dusty when he told me to act like I was squeezing a pencil between my shoulder blades in order to engage my back in back squats. I have heard so many times to use my back in back squats but I never knew how to do that. It was just that aha moment when everything clicked.
Which public figure or celebrity would you put in the dunk tank?
What’s your favorite place to eat in San Diego?
Mexican – Tacos el Gordo in Chula Vista, best adobada street tacos ever!
BBQ – Coops in lemon grove
Sushi – Happy’s in mira mesa
What famous person (alive or not) would you most like to have a drink with and what would you buy them?
HOWARD STERN!!! I love Howard. I listen to his show religiously, luckily every show is on demand because I cannot miss a second. He doesn’t really drink but when he does it’s typically a glass of wine. So I would buy him a glass of wine. Hit’em with the Hein!
If you had one movie on a deserted island what would it be?
dumb and dumber. I love the dumb comedy movies
What’s a funny story from your childhood?
I cannot really think one particular funny story but my brother and I laugh all the time about how we use to fist fight. My dad would let us duke it out when we were fighting until either one of us started bleeding or one of us cried.
What’s your favorite naughty food?
Anything funfetti/confetti cake/birthday cake. Nothing bundt cakes confetti bundtlette, Sprinkles birthday cake cupcake, Oreo vanilla birthday cake, the cravory birthday cake cookies, baked bear has a funfetti cookie and ice cream… the list goes on
If you could travel to any point in the past, where would you go?
We just came back from Cancun and toured a couple of the Mayan Ruins. I would love to go back during that time and see how they were able to build those temples in relation to the solar eclipse without computers.
What’s your favorite thing about training at P360?
Making fun of Mark when Julianne is around… But in all seriousness, I really love the programming. Coming from a gym where there wasn’t any programming to P360 has made such a difference and I really have to stop myself from working out everyday of the week.
What is your biggest goal moving into 2018?
To make goals. Making fitness goals is new for me and I am excited for what the future holds especially with Lenny helping me with my diet!
