THUR: Why 15″ Recovery Intra-Set?
The reason that we often provide an intra set recovery phase when training the Olympic lifts is that we don’t want grip to be a limiting factor in your development. Load drives adaptation in lifts. All of them. Ultimately, we want to be in a position where we train with as much weight as we can while being safe and productive.
The 15″ is there to give your grip and CNS just enough time to not fail you on reps three and four. That’s it.
This is not to say we don’t value and train grip. I think that’s pretty obvious. It’s merely a representation of the fact that we want to train snatches, not grip strength when we’re isolating the movement in a tier one.
So, challenge yourself with as much weight as you can JUST before your technique starts to break or slow down.
