The Uniqueness of Process

It’s very easy to see the results that someone has earned for themselves and completely disregard the individualism behind it. It’s easy to want to credit process without consideration to the human element. Why are some salesman at companies better than others? Surely they all follow the same process, so under that premise all results would be uniform across the board. After all, this is what AI is essentially trying to create. Problem is, we are not robots.

It just may be that salesman perhaps isn’t married. Maybe she has more time to dedicate to off the clock follow up. Maybe she is a natural extrovert who loves people and is uniquely fitted for her skill set. Maybe she has aspirations to ultimately get a seat on the board, whereas yours may be to use this as a stepping stone to another career.

You and I could come to the gym four times per week, attend all of the same classes in fact. Yet, this guarantees nothing. What are your habits outside the gym? What are the demands of your personal life? Your job? Your family? How is your nutrition? How much more committed to your progress are you than I?

How many of you very secretly strive to achieve an aesthetic of someone on Instagram who is literally a professional in shape person? When you know that you won’t ever actually be able to achieve it? You’re chasing the results of someone else with a unique process that isn’t the same. How could it be? You’re two different people. So when you follow their plan, why don’t you look like them?

Consider that all processes and outcomes are truly unique, and though we may be able to all achieve a similar result with proven process, your outcome will be unique to you. Not better. Not worse. Just you. Rather than become mentally tied down by comparison in a never ending game of “better than – worse than”, instead focus on what is within your control and creating your best version of the process.
