Suffocating In The Weeds
“By and large is the level at which you need to understand most things in order to make effective decisions.” – Dalio
In general, we are all way too hung up on the fine details when it is that exact obsessive way of thinking that impedes our ability to be fast with decision making, and clear in communication.
Dalio goes on to suggest that whenever someone objects to simplicity usually being overwhelmingly superior to complexity, it is usually followed by a deep dive into the weeds of the subject matter. The exact location where clarity goes to die and unnecessary debates begin to derail what was otherwise on a straight path towards achieving the initial objective. It’s not about the absolute most optimal, efficient way to get it done. It’s about getting it done. Sure, we want efficiency of course, but not if we have to slow down and examine it to death in order to get it.
This can be applicable to you in many ways, and I won’t attempt to try and connect those dots for you. I’ll simply address the low hanging fruit of how that might apply to your fitness goals. Are you stuck in the weeds chasing precision? Are you obsessing over a few macros, pounds in a workout. and wired to ten different daily devices to study your physiology? If so, you might want to take a step back and simplify.
The answer to your success or failures is most often in the action of simplicity, not complication. Do less, or do more. It’s probably not anywhere in the middle.
