Stop Digging
When you’re in a rut, digging a bigger hole doesn’t make things better. It only takes you further into the direction you don’t want to head. For example, tell me if any of these feel a little too close to home for you.
You missed Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday at the gym so instead of getting in a quality workout Friday, you’re just going to wait until next week. You’re not going to start that nutrition plan in November, because with Thanksgiving and Christmas, what’s the point? You missed breakfast and ate a burrito for lunch, so you’re just going to punt dinner and get fast food. What’s the point of one healthy meal? You pigged out at the bars on Friday, so you’re just going to ride it into Sunday eating whatever you want.
We all do all of these things yet none of them make any sense. Making poor decisions is a part of life and easily manageable. Compounding them is not. If you find yourself off the proverbial rails, the best and easiest thing you can do is simple. Just don’t make them worse based on emotion, not logic. In a hole that you want get get out of? As Ryan Holiday says, “Stop digging.”
Believe it or not, the decision to stop going deeper has great impact.
