Here are are again with another edition of members of the month.  Every month, our stuff huddles up, nominates and votes on who we think really stood out above the crowd over the previous 30 days.  Here are the winners for September.

Ben Hinton

Ben is a regular at the midday Crown Point classes and has really turned on his work ethic over the past few months.  He is constantly asking questions about how we can correct his lifts, improve his mobility and all around be more efficient at reaching his potential.  Ben came to P360 in the early part of the year as a complete beginner, and through his hard work has recently hit PRs in his deadlift (405#), box jump (55″) and reached Level 2 Barbell Club in the month of September.

Get to Know Ben

Age, where are you from? 34. Grew up in Silver Spring, MD.

What do you do for work (or school)? I have an internet marketing/advertising company. I work at home from my “command center”.

What do you do for fun?  I play basketball twice a week and just started playing beach volleyball again on the weekends. Drinking beers and watching sports is up there in the non active fun category. Playing with my dog Charlie is about as fun as it gets.

What motivates you each day? I try to sprinkle in little personal challenges each day to go along with my bigger long term goals. Even the little things like re-organizing the dishes in the dishwasher in order to fit more in can give me a strange sense of satisfaction.

Favorite and least favorite exercise? Power cleans and snatches, clean and jerk, ring dips. Never done any of those before I started at p360, now I love em. Running more than 100m is terrible.

What’s the most valuable bit of coaching you’ve received at P360? Too much to list here. One thing that stands out is that all the coaches are really good at being consistent in what they teach. That holds true not only from each day to day workout but also from coach to coach. Something I hear from Dave ends up getting re-enforced by Caitlin a week later and then again by Ashley a week after that. It happens all the time. All key points of a lift/movement are emphasized and there is never any conflict in what is taught. To me, it’s that consistency has been the most valuable.

What is your most proud achievement at P360 so far? Either 400# deadlift or 235# power clean. Never would have thought either was possible when I started.

If money was no concern, what would be your dream job? Professional Lego assembler.

Embarrassing fact most people don’t know? I call my wife “schmoopie” and she also calls me “schmoopie”. It’s pretty normal to us, but its often hilarious to people we meet.

Hidden talent most people don’t know? I’m pretty good at crossword puzzles.

If you were an ice cream flavor, what would you be and why? Chocolate frozen yogurt with peanuts, oreos and whipped cream from that place on Garnet and Lamont. Because it is delicious.

If you could teleport to any point in the past, where would you go? Assuming I could come back, I’d go check out some dinosaurs and some of those huge bugs and stuff that used to walk the earth millions of years ago.

Favorite treat meal? Burger & Fries. I cheat a lot.

What’s the biggest overall improvement you had made since joining? Coming to the gym consistently. My improvement only started to become noticeable once I quit being an idiot and actually came in to the gym and put forth some effort. Since then I have literally gotten better each time I set foot in the gym…either lifting more or improving in form/mobility/endurance.

Famous person you’d most like to have a drink with, and what drink would you buy them? Bob Segar. I’d buy him beers and whiskey and make him play guitar and sing around a campfire until everyone blacked out.

Which public figure or celebrity needs to be slapped? Jeff Goldblum

You have one song, one movie and one TV show a desert island are they? This would probably change if you asked me again tomorrow…Everybody wants to rule the world – Tears for Fears…Star Wars…Seinfeld

What is your biggest goal for the rest of 2014? Grow beard.

The acknowledgement is much appreciated. Thanks to you and all the coaches over there.

Janette Williams

Janette has been attending class regularly for months now and is always working hard and working with a smile on her face.  She always greets people right when she walks through the door, is not afraid to ask questions and is often seen running laps around members half her age.  Janette is a great example of steady, consistent attendance without trying to blow the doors off of every single workout.  Getting better one day at a time and letting the process run its course.
