Ryan joins our team with an impressive athletic background, having competed for the United States on Team USA in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. An accomplished athlete, Ryan has always had a deep desire to better understand the human body and how to use it to its fullest potential. As a Coach, she now stands on the other side of the relationship and is excited to share all that she knows and continues to learn.
How old are you and where are you from? 29. West Nyack, New York.
How long have you lived in San Diego and what brought you here? 7 years. Rugby (training at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista)
What do you hope to accomplish with someone when coaching? I love seeing members do things they didn’t think were possible. I want to leverage the strengths that members already have but that are either undiscovered or underestimated. As a coach, I hope to emphasize the value of their capabilities both in and out of the gym.
Describe your own personal philosophies with fitness and nutrition? I am a goal oriented creature of habit and nothing makes me happier than structure. Have a plan, form good habits, and be kind to yourself. I like the 80/20 rule. 80% nutrition, 20% fitness, and 100% human – prioritize a positive relationship with nutrition and fitness, but always make time for naps, ice cream, and beer.
Are there any personal results or transformations you’ve achieved through fitness that you’d like to share? As a professional athlete, I obsessed over sport and skill specific training. In the last 3 years, I shifted my focus towards creating a well-rounded, functional foundation for myself as an athlete. With this I was able to increase mobility, range of motion, overall strength allowing me to feel even more confident in my rugby training. Stepping outside of my comfort zone made my comfort zone that much more comfortable.
Where are you going locally to crush food, and what are you ordering? I’m a sucker for a burger and sweet potato fries. I love Raglan’s Big, Bare & Dirty: two lamb patties, two fried eggs, bacon, edam cheese, beetroot. And then on the way home, I stop at Black Market Bakery for their chocolate chip, toffee, pretzel cookie.
