PB Members of the Month: BLOCK 7

We’re back with another edition of Member of the Month, and it’s time to recognize two hard working folks.

Kate Woodward

Nominated by: Coach Kyle

Kate is a new member who joined in September and has wasted no time getting herself into the mix of classes. Primarily an attendee of FIT with PSC classes mixed in, Kate shows up almost every single day and works among the hardest in the room, bringing a consistent level of effort, energy, and positive attitude every time she’s in class.

Where are you from and what do you do for work?
I’m from Franconia, NH and I’m an outpatient orthopedic physical therapist.

How long have you lived in San Diego?
3 years.

What caused you to join P360?
Recommended highly by a friend, Kate Foot, and I was looking to be pushed in my workouts

Describe your first class here.
It kicked my butt! The coach was very positive and motivating, the music was great, and the other members in the class were super friendly and welcoming

What is an embarrassing story about yourself?
I accidentally knocked over my suitcase on an elevator and took out an entire line of people by the knees

If you could have been a member of any band/group in time, which band and what instrument?
Simple Plan, drummer.

What is your most valuable bit of coaching advice you’ve received here?
All the exercise demonstrations and “key words” to think of to ensure safe form/proper technique.

What would be your “death row” last meal on Earth?
An entire jar of peanut butter.

What’s a hidden talent that you have?
I can do a press handstand.

What is your most proud achievement at P360 so far?
I haven’t thrown up yet.

Who is your top celebrity crush?
Tom Brady.

What would you see if you could time travel anywhere?
The pyramids being built.

What gym movements do you love doing and why?
Pull-ups and toes to bar because they remind me of my competitive gymnastics days

What goals do you have for the rest of 2019?
Always give 100% in the gym, ensure form over speed.

Brandon Tucker

Nominated by: Coach Jenn

Brandon has been a P360 member for three years, celebrating his anniversary just this month. He always works really hard to make sure his form is correct on big movements without rushing to add weight, and is always super friendly and polite. He makes steady, consistent progress that is always under the radar, and he’s always incredibly attentive and focused on any coaching that he receives.

Where are you from and what do you do for work?
Moorpark, CA and I’m a Certified Financial Planner working for a financial planning tech company.

How long have you lived in San Diego?
I moved to San Diego and became an Aztec in 2011.

What caused you to join P360?
I was looking for something different. I’d done the same workouts for five years or so, and needed a change. Outside the benchmarks, I haven’t done the same workout twice in three years at P360.

Describe your first class here.
Miserable. I don’t work out at 6am but must have been feeling motivated. We started with a 12 minute EMOM with RKB Swings and mountain climbers. Then some core work before a timed 800m run. My optional finisher was puking outside.

What is an embarrassing story about yourself?
Less than a week after I got my license, I thought it would be fun to do donuts in the rain in my explorer in the park. It was. The mistake was sticking around long enough for the cops to show up. I ended up with two police officers in yellow ponchos standing over me, now on my hands and knees, as I patched up the turf in the pouring rain in shame with a dozen friends watching from a distance. Thank God this happened before everything went on social media.

If you could have been a member of any band/group in time, which band and what instrument?
Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band probably playing the guitar.

What is your most valuable bit of coaching advice you’ve received here?
I can’t possibly pinpoint one thing but I know I regularly repeat back to myself in my head a ton of what Coach Julianne taught me in my first year.

What would be your “death row” last meal on Earth?
I’ve lived near this great looking restaurant Baci for 5 years now and I really need to try it before I die.

What’s a hidden talent that you have?
I’m a trained stunt actor, and it’s hidden because I was never hired.

What is your most proud achievement at P360 so far?
Honestly, I’m proud of the times that I’ve come back after missing several weeks or a month. Regularly signing up to get your ass handed to you is much easier when you’ve formed a habit. Facing failure and getting back in there is uncomfortable. Coaches say “I haven’t seen you in a while” and the workouts are more painful and the warm-up run has changed and it’s embarrassing not knowing. So I’m proud to have overcome some of those hurdles.

Who is your top celebrity crush?
Zooey Deschanel

What would you see if you could time travel anywhere?
I better take this opportunity to pick the Dodgers winning the World Series because I don’t know if I’ll ever get to see it. Oakland, 1988.

What gym movements do you love doing and why?
I enjoy cleans, snatches, and jerks. Major progress is possible simply by improving technique, which is fun.

What goals do you have for the rest of 2019?
Get my picture up in one of the bathrooms. Also I’d like to keep progressing slowly and steadily towards my goal of 12% BFP for my wedding to my beautiful Sarah next July.
