WED: December Members of the Month

Wednesday’s PSC workout below.

Dan Harizal. Dan has been an amazing member for over a year and a half, constantly on the coaches’ radar for extraordinary effort. With a great foundation of movement, we’ve seen a ton of progress in Dan’s strength, technique, speed, the whole dang package. He is never one to shy away from a timed challenge, to push himself and continue to explore ways to improve. Not only has Dan’s athleticism made him an easy choice, he is also one of the most helpful and friendly members. He cheers on fellow members, asks questions to improve his knowledge, and quite simply works incredibly hard. We are excited to see Dan continue to kill and make moves in 2018!

DEC: Member of the Month

How old are you, and where are you from?
I am 27 and I was born and raised in Pleasanton California in the Bay Area.

What do you do for work?
I am a Mechanical design engineer for Solar Turbines.

What do you do for fun outside of P360?
I enjoy hiking and playing frisbee golf. I also like going to the movies.

How has P360 affected your life?
I am in better shape now than I have ever been. Having a consistent structured workout every day has been really great for me and depending on what I feel I need work on, strength, stamina, or both, I can usually tweak my workouts slightly  to achieve my goals.

What are your favorite, and least favorite exercises?
My favorite exercises are anything that involve a sled pull or drag. I love that sick feeling you get throughout your entire body that lets you know you pushed your nervous system to its limit. My least favorite workout is burpees, but I don’t think anyone likes those.

What is the hardest thing you have done, physically, in the gym?
The “Hell’s Bells” time challenge. Halfway into it my body started to hurt and my lungs were burning, but I kept pushing through.

What is your most proud achievement at P360?
Probably being chosen for member of the month. There are a lot of very hard working people at the gym, which is part of what makes it some much fun to be a part of it. My goal everyday is to work as hard as I can to achieve the most out of my workouts and to do what I can to help others achieve the most out of theirs. To be recognized for that effort is very rewarding.

What is a hidden talent of yours?
I am really good at doing a Rubik’s cube.

What is an embarrassing fact most people don’t know about?
I have really dry cracked feet. I try and keep them smooth but in the winter they look like a dry river bed.

If money was no concern, what would be your dream job?
I would love to work for NASA. I think it would be a lot of fun to do work related to space.

What is the biggest overall improvement you’ve made, since joining P360?
My cleans have improved the most since joining P360. I normally avoided doing them because I was always worried I was going to hurt my back because I could not get the technique right.

What is the most valuable piece of coaching you’ve received?
It’s better to drop your weight and perfect the technique, then try and lift heavy and hurt yourself. Don’t let your ego get in the way.

Which public figure or celebrity would you put in the dunk tank?
Ben Affleck.

What’s your favorite place to eat in San Diego?
Mamma Mia’s Italian restaurant in PB. They are the nicest people and make the best Italian food I have ever had.

What famous person (alive or not) would you  most like to have a drink with and what would you buy them?
Kevin Hart and I would buy him a Margarita.
If you had one movie on a deserted island what would it be?
Kung Fu Panda. No question.

What’s a funny story from your childhood?
When I was in middle school my brother and I built a small ramp for our bikes in the parking lot at the park across from my house. When it started to rain we went home but left the ramp. The rain ended up washing the ramp over the storm drain and flooding the entire park.

What’s your favorite naughty food?
I love Kraft macaroni and cheese. I could eat it everyday for every meal and be perfectly happy. That also might count as an embarrassing fact.

If you could travel to any point in the past, where would you go?
December 5, 1933 the day prohibition ended because I bet they threw one hell of a party.

<

What’s your favorite thing about training at P360?
I really like the variety in the workouts. Each day is a little different and even though some of movements are repeated (there are only some many different ways to do a deadlift) there is always something different. That makes going to the gym everyday more enjoyable. I look forward to working out everyday.

What is your biggest goal moving into 2018?
I want to make the board for one of the time challenges. Each time challenge represents a new an unique challenge, each one with a different set of strategies and preparation. My goal is to make the board for at least one. Then another.

Marisa Elbers. Marisa has been a solid member for years. We have seen so much progress in all areas. She is a consistent attendee of all of our class formats, dedicates her time to improving upon her technique, and strength, but isn’t afraid to tackle a timed challenge or a gnarly Shred class. Always willing to work with others, and be supportive of those in the room, Marisa’s warm smile is welcoming. She’s an incredibly hard worker to all of her goals and continues to see results 3 years in. We are stoked to see where 2018 takes her! Congratulations Marisa!
How old are you, and where are you from?
21 hahahah.  Born and raised in Fairmont, Minnesota, Land of 10,000 Lakes.

What do you do for work?
I currently work at San Diego Sports Medicine Physical Therapy in Sorrento Valley and help run the office and patients.

What do you do for fun outside of P360?
I try to relax and have fun by getting outside as much as I can. Hiking, bike rides, beach time, hanging out with friends and grabbing some food. Not a big partier anymore. I’d rather take a nap, play board games, travel, or try something new.

How has P360 affected your life?
I love how athletic I feel by doing challenging and fun workouts. Lifting alone is pretty boring, and lucky for us, the community here is pretty amazing. I admit that I am stronger in multiple areas of my life because of what I achieve physically.

What are your favorite, and least favorite exercises?
Clean and jerk is my favorite (or any clean complex), and I’m afraid of heights so my least favorite is box jumps (so high, so scary).

What is the hardest thing you have done, physically, in the gym?
I did an 85# full snatch in olympic weightlifting class last year and didn’t die. Besides that, truly sprinting a mile always pushes me to my absolute limit.

What is your most proud achievement at P360?
Level 4 BB Club, for sure. I worked hard for that one.

What is a hidden talent of yours?
I love painting, drawing, and creating art, and I play guitar (not that well)

What is an embarrassing fact most people don’t know about?
I played the flute and was in marching band throughout my high school years #nerdbomber

If money was no concern, what would be your dream job?
I am passionate about helping athletes (more specifically, injured athletes) and people in high-risk occupations (like firefighters) with their mental and physical skills.

What is the biggest overall improvement you’ve made, since joining P360?
P360 makes you age like a fine wine. The older you get, the better you become. It’s a result of paying attention and consistently learning from others!

What is the most valuable piece of coaching you’ve received?
“Don’t do it if it hurts.” – Everyone.

Which public figure or celebrity would you put in the dunk tank?
Trump. Bye. Throw away the key.

What’s your favorite place to eat in San Diego?
Mexican or sushi! Mmm

What famous person (alive or not) would you most like to have a drink with and what would you buy them?
The Rock. Tequilaaa!

If you had one movie on a deserted island what would it be?
Lord of the Rings, because then I get three movies

What’s a funny story from your childhood?
When I was playing basketball in 6th grade on traveling team during the summer, I got disoriented after I stole the ball and ran down the court the wrong way and scored for the other team. Look away…

What’s your favorite naughty food?
Pizza, donuts, burritos, and anything chocolate/peanut butter

If you could travel to any point in the past, where would you go?
Ew, the past. I’d rather travel to the future, check out what is new, and then come back and invent it and be rich.

What’s your favorite thing about training at P360?
I love a good high energy class with loud music after working all day! I enjoy when a workout kicks my buns and I didn’t expect it to. I also like that we partially workout outside!

What is your biggest goal moving into 2018?
Be good to my body. Put back in what I take out. Learn much more about it. It’s really not fun to be injured or unhealthy so that will always come before hitting any lift!
