We are back with yet another edition of the P360 Members of the Month! I know that we say this all the time, but this month was especially challenging to decide the two most deserving winners across the entire gym. A lot goes into this. Most notably, the attitude, commitment and overall level of participation of the members. Do you show up regularly? Ask questions and show a constant desire to get better? Performance is a distant measurement as the member of the month is based largely on attitude, interaction with fellow members and overall level of positivity.
We are also very excited to introduce a brand new feature: New Member of the Month!
Some quick recognition to a guy or gal within their first 30 days that really jumps right in, throws insecurities of new movements aside as embraces the challenge. For May, we are proud to introduce to the P360 community and recognize…
New Member of the Month: Heather Doyle
Heather joined as a complete beginner to all of the movements and without knowing a single soul here at P360. Training for her wedding in five months, Heather has jumped right in, embraced her coaching and if something feels awkward she just laughs it off with a smile. A quick learner, Heather is already making quick progress towards her goals.

Age, where are you from?
I am 27 years old and from San Diego, lived here for about 7 years and I was in Orange County before San Diego.
I am in school to get my BA in Early Childhood Education. And I work at a Child Development Center for the Navy.
Right now I am planning my wedding so that has become a lot of fun. I am going to consider trying to get a side job in wedding coordinating.
Honestly I am enjoying all of it so far being that I am still new I don’t have a least favorite. I love all exercises that help me tone my arms (so I look good in my wedding dress lol).
I used to do this beach boot camp with a group of people who loved to workout, but my fiancé realized that I was performing incorrect form. So he had heard at P360 and wanted me to try it out. I came for my free class and fell in love right away. I love the way all the classes are ran and how everyone is friendly and there to workout.
What are your goals?
My goal is to get toned from head to toe and have upper body strength. Being that I am a runner I have a lot of leg strength and no upper body. I would like to have a 6-pack at some point in my life. And I want to just make myself proud. And of course I would like to look amazing on my wedding day.
The most embarrassing fact about me is that I am self conscious because I was made fun of a lot in high school.
I played the saxophone all four years of high school (wish I had kept it up).
Favorite cheat meal?
Wine… Wine… Wine… and pizza.
My all time favorite actor is Will Smith. I would buy him anything he wanted to drink with me. Been in love with him since Fresh Prince of Bel Air.
Cant Stop Me by Afrojack
What is your biggest goal for the rest of 2014?
I want to get in amazing shape and be able to use higher weights. Being that I am new to all of this, I want to just keep coming in increasing the amount of weight I use. Also, I want to be able to do 10 pull ups with no assistance.
Congratulations to Heather. Please make sure to welcome her if you recognize her around your class!
Female Member of the Month: Teresa Gisla
Since joining P360 a few short months ago, Teresa has made a huge impact on the gym and has not wasted any time trying to reach her potential. She asks a ton of questions and shares genuine interest in getting better. She always has a purpose and when she does not accomplish something she wants, she has a great attitude of, “I’ll get ’em next time.” She is supportive of her other members and always the first to offer a congratulations if someone in her class reaches a goal.
Most recently, Teresa set the gym record for women’s 1000m row and hit a PR in her back squat of 205#.

Age, where are you from?
I am 31, from Sacramento, CA.
What do you do for work (or school)?
I’ve been a nurse at UCSD Med Center since 2007. I worked for 4 years in a burn ICU, and the last 3 in the PACU (recovery).
What do you do for fun?
Workout at P360 of course! But seriously, I really do love working out. I loved it before P360, but I’ve always worked out solo and stuck to the same routine- blah. Surrounded by other dedicated, focused and positive people has added a whole new dimension to what I already loved to do. I also love to surf, beach cruise (is that an activity in itself??), read (yes, for fun), wander around farmer’s markets, (now) cook, a good happy hour with friends on a warm patio…and generally, anything that involves the sun, the beach, and a cocktail.
Favorite and least favorite exercise?
This is a hard one! I’d have to say barbell complexes. I recently was introduced to P360 complexes. They combine so many key movements all into one bad ass flow. And it’s a total body workout requiring complete focus, coordination, strength and flexibility, lots of ROM…it just feels athletic as hell. I also love anything that targets our most important ASSet, obviously.
Least favorite: Generally I don’t like anything I’m not really good at (pull-ups, box jumps); anything that makes me feel completely ridiculous, uncoordinated, and “jiggly” (double-unders, hurdle hops, box jumps); or anything that might seriously maim me (box jumps).
What is your most proud achievement at P360?
There have been a ton of physical achievements since I started. I’m still a newbie, so it feels like the sky is the limit when it comes to goals and actually achieving them. There are so many little things I celebrate every workout. But this past month, I learned how to cook and eat correctly. This practice, and more importantly, the mentality and attitude, is something that will stay with me my entire life. I ate pretty clean and “healthy” before, but never cooked, rarely ate actual meals, believed less was more, and was usually hungry all day…it’s amazing how good you can perform and feel when you fuel your body. And as it turns out, I LOVE cooking!
What kind of P360 workouts do you most enjoy?
Sounds crazy, but I love circuits involving high volume reps, either timed or a set number. Add in a 1.5 mile kettlebell run in between and I’m in workout junkie heaven. (This last Saturday rockedJ) Everyone in the zone, dripping with sweat, music bumpin’ (preferably some really hard and gangsta), everyone bringing their bodies to that point just before total burnout…I love flirting with that moment, physically, mentally. It takes you to a crazy good place. (ONE exception: high volume OH Kettlebell swings no me gusta)
What workouts make you utter curse words to yourself?
Nope, you’re wrong. It’s actually not box jumps. Admittedly, I do not challenge myself on these; I’m just not ready to face them. I actually hate rowing, as much as I challenge myself with it. It’s complicated. Love/hate kind of thing, cause it’s so good for you! But the feeling of massive amounts of lactic acid building up in ½ of your body is (1st
Embarrassing fact most people don’t know?
When I was a kid we all awoke to find one of our goldfish on the floor just outside of the tank with a massive bite mark. Apparently, per my loving sister, I had pulled the poor little guy out of the tank in my sleep and took a bite out of it. I f***ing ate our goldfish. This bothered me for quite some time.
Hidden talent most people don’t know?
I would say that I’m a fantastic dancer. And I mean like swing/formal dancer, not bump n grinder or freestyle. I suck at that. And all of the above require at least one adult beverage.
Favorite cheat meal?
Damn. These are tough questions! Can I pick one sweet one salty? And two of each?? Pumpkin pie and vanilla ice cream…OR anything PB and chocolate AND gourmet pizza! Loaded with burrata cheese, pesto, prosciutto, etc. OR BBQ tri-tip, smothered in BBQ sauce.
What’s the biggest overall improvement you had made since joining?
Squats! Or anything that requires you to squat. My hip flexors weresooooo tight when I started! It was completely painful to squat even close to parallel. But with the help of my foam roller, brilliant blog posts from Dave and Maria on running recovery, mobility and rest, and video tips from our yoga instructor extraordinaire Julianne, I just squatted 205# . I still have a long way to go, but generally, loosening those bad boys up has made everything more comfortable.
Famous person you’d most like to have a drink with, and what drink would you buy them?
Another tough one, so I’m really not gonna go deep with this. I recently had a conversation with a co-worker about wanting to go on a date with Anthony Bourdain. I find him very intriguing, maybe even sexy?? Witty, adventurous, intelligent, perfect mix of gentleman and rogue, charming as hell. His perspective is raw. We’d start with Sidecars, then red wine with dinner (yes, we’d have dinner too. Tapas. Little bites of exotic and gourmet goodness). Finish with more bourbon, and chocolate. And I would be more than willing to buy him a drink, but he would never let me.
You have one song on a desert island to listen to for eternity. What is it?
It would definitely have to be classical since any one song with words would eventually drive me insane. And if classical, then it would have to be my favorite classical piece: Bach cello suite No. 1
What is your biggest goal for the rest of 2013?
To be more confident in myself, to be confident enough to take rest days, “finding that sweet spot of rest and ass kickery.” (Thanks, Dave;) To be patient with myself, and to trust the process, focusing on taking the right steps to develop myself physically and mentally, however long that may take. Take P360 Philosophy #1 to heart: Crawl -> Walk -> Run -> Sprint -> Conquer. And, to continue to celebrate little victories, in every aspect of life.
I am so honored to be recognized for something that really is a labor of love, and something that I am so grateful for! I get back everything I give in that gym. Recognition is just sweet sweet icing on the cake. So, thank you!
Male Member of the Month: Pat Alcoke
Pat has been one of 6 am’s most consistent members for well over the last year. He asks a ton of questions, pays very close attention to his coaching and is always in the state of constant improvement. Pat is a true pleasure to coach as he takes on the role of the student extremely well.

What do you do for fun?
Most of my free time is spent either reading, playing guitar, taking my dog Dunkin to dog beach or kicking it my wife Maria (P360 Endurance Coach).
Favorite and least favorite exercise?
Favorite is between push-ups and hang snatches. Least favorite is burpees. I don’t use the word hate very often but this is an exception. If there were one exercise I could personify simply to punch in the face…it would be burpees.
What is your most proud achievement at P360?
Honestly this. The caliber of people that walk through those doors each week as well as the accomplishments listed on the board after every workout are very humbling. Being considered for this is really awesome.
What kind of P360 workouts do you most enjoy?
My favorite are the workouts that center around one heavy lift movement with supporting exercises around it.
What workouts make you utter curse words to yourself?
High rounds with high reps of a lot of different exercises are the ones that kick my butt.
Embarrassing fact most people don’t know?
I love Brendan Fraser movies. Even Furry Vengeance (watch with no expectations)
Hidden talent most people don’t know?
I can play a very mean mouth trumpet. Like Miles Davis but with my mouth…and no actual trumpet.
Favorite cheat meal?
Drunken Noodles from Thai Village. The guy knows me by name when I order take out.
What’s the biggest overall improvement you had made since joining?
I can pick much heavier things up off the ground and push them in the air. Before P360 I had no idea how to properly lift to get to my goals.
Famous person you’d most like to have a drink with, and what drink would you buy them?
Albert Einstein. I think the drink would have to be relative to the time of day and the space in which it would be drank, as well as how much we’d be drinking and how fast it would be consumed.
You have one song on a desert island to listen to for eternity. What is it?
Step Out by Jose Gonzalez
What is your biggest goal for the rest of 2014?
Gym wise I’d like to hit barbell club 2 and whatever the next frog club level is. Being tall and lanky, putting on muscle is always a challenge, so this gives me a measurable way to get there.
Congrats to Heather, Pat and Teresa! Make sure to throw ’em a high five in the gym next time you see them around.
