JULY MEMBERS OF THE MONTH

We’re back with another edition of Performance360 Members of the Month.

As always, the member of the month award is decided by our coaches getting together and nominating who stood out to us each in the areas of attitude, effort and performance. We take pride in our votes and take the handing out of member of the month quite seriously. To win it means an individual stood out above hundreds of other hard working folks and is truly deserving of the honor.

First, some individual shouts from our staff.

Coach Julianne: Jorge Villa. “Hard worker, and incredible at layering technique onto technique to make a complete lift/movement.”
Coach Brenna: Amanda Anderson. “Takes every coaching tip to heart and attempts to apply those cues every single time she walks in the door.”
Coach Dave: David Hunt. “New member who is incredibly coachable and eager to learn. Love his attitude.”
Coach Chris: Karen Higareda. “Always questioning how to improve and is increasingly becoming more comfortable getting out of her comfort zone.”
Coach Pritz: Tess Cianfrocco.Type P mentality. Technique on point, works hard everyday.”
Coach Will: Chloe Manese. “Continuously kicking ass at 6 am!”
Coach Lenny: Adam Hascall. “Comes into class, consumes what’s on the board and smashes the hell out of it whether it’s a shred or heavy cleans.
Coach Matt: Jess Malone. “Works hard and is consistently pushing herself. Does it with a smile…most of the time.”
Coach Kyle: Tim Jeffries. “Absolute model member, Focuses on dialing in technique and ROM first with every movement and seeks out coaching to improve.”

MATT GORDON

Matt is no stranger to accomplishment and recognition at Performance360. A member for roughly five years and second highest Tier of Club Forged, Matt has a long resume of physical achievements with us. But what has never been properly recognized is just what a nice guy Matt is. Among all of our members, long tenured and new, Matt may be the most down to earth, nice guy we have at Performance360. He never thinks that his strength makes him better than his lifting partners, and he never has anything but kind words and encouragement for those in his class.

Matt is a long time favorite of our coaching staff and we’re very happy to recognize him as the July male member of the month.

Get to Know Matt

Age, where are you from?
29 years old from Walnut Creek, CA

What do you do for work?
I am the Manager of Project Development at Sullivan Solar Power

What do you do for fun?
I like to play guitar/ukulele, games of any type and the occasional night of karaoke.

Describe how training has affected your daily life.
Five years ago, I decided to try out this new, small gym for a two-week trial. After the first workout, I signed up on the spot. The workouts were always new and I saw great results, but what got me hooked and has kept me here for so long is the incredible community that has formed around this gym. I’ve consistently received high level coaching from the staff and motivation from friends I’ve known for five years or five minutes. The people here are what make my workouts the highlight of my day.

Favorite and least favorite exercise?
My first love was deadlifts, but cleans have been coming in a close second lately. If I never pull a bridge run during a deck of cards workout again, it’ll be too soon.

What’s the most valuable bit of coaching you’ve received at P360?
Never push yourself harder than your body can handle. Drop the weight until you can do the exercise with great form and you’ll see much better results in the long run.

What is your most proud achievement at P360 so far?
I think my proudest moment was pulling my 505 deadlift. It was a long road from the 300 max I started with.

What’s the hardest thing you’ve done physically at the gym?
That’s a tough one. That’s probably a tie between the five minute max row and the 100 KB swings + 100 KB squats with running between for time.

If money was no concern, what would be your dream job?
I’d love to get paid to watch TV and movies all day. If anyone’s hiring, let me know. If that doesn’t pan out, I’d probably want to do something in fitness or geeking out over spreadsheets/computer code.

Embarrassing fact most people don’t know?
My left foot is a half-size bigger than my right.

Hidden talent most people don’t know?
I’ve played guitar for fourteen years and picked up the ukulele 8 months ago.

If you could teleport to any point in the past, where would you go?
I would definitely follow Biff’s lead and give myself some betting tips and stock picks. It worked out well for him.

Favorite naughty food?
I may have eaten an entire Little Caesar’s pizza the day after the pool party.

What’s the biggest overall improvement you have made since joining?
My overall strength is significantly higher and I’ve been able to drop my body fat while maintaining my weight.

What was your favorite cartoon growing up?
I had back-to-back Rescue Rangers birthday parties and a hamster named Gadget.

Famous person you’d most like to have a drink with, and what drink would you buy them?
I would enjoy a nice glass of scotch with Will Ferrell.

What’s a funny story from your childhood?
My siblings, five or six cousins and I were all sleeping in a big room together at my Uncle and Aunt’s house. My two cousins who lived there snuck out early to go to a party and didn’t come back until we were all asleep. They left the lights off while they carefully and quietly stepped between all of our sleeping bags, trying not to wake us up. It was at this point that I sat bolt upright (still fast asleep mind you) and started yelling in what I’ve been told sounded like Mandarin or Japanese, scaring the crap out of both of them. I immediately fell back to sleep leaving both of them shocked, confused and laughing hysterically.

Which public figure or celebrity would you like to put in a dunk tank?
The guy who sings that “Panda” song. No, I don’t know who he is. No, I don’t care to.

You have one movie to take with you on a desert island. What is it?
Dumb and Dumber.

What is your biggest goal for the rest of 2016?
I’ve been working hard for the past year to get my strength back to where it was before I got hurt and was out of the gym for the better part of a year. I would love to set a PR in my deadlift by the end of the year.

MINDY MONDOUX

Mindy has been very quietly getting some amazing results for herself over the past few months. A staple at the 4 pm time slot, Mindy is always there working hard and working towards her goals in a smart way that never over does it, but always has her progressing. Recently, she reached Level 2 Barbell Club, Level 1 Prison Yard Club and Level 1 Flight Club, three clubs that are incredibly different skill sets and achievements, making Mindy a very well rounded performer.

Get to Know Mindy

Age, where are you from?
As of last Monday, 30. And I’m from the great state of Maine.

What do you do for work?
I’m a pre and post surgery nurse.

What do you do for fun?
I love reading, the beach and hanging out with friends.

Describe how Performance360 has affected your daily life.
The biggest difference I’ve noticed since I joined is my self-confidence. I truly am more confident in my self than I ever was, which helps at work dealing with surgeons all day…(sorry if you’re a surgeon). I’ve also made some awesome friends I’ve met at the gym!!

Favorite and least favorite exercise?
My favorite is squats and deadlifts all day. Least favorite is rowing, though those sled drags the other day are a very close second.

What’s the most valuable bit of coaching you’ve received at P360?
From Coach Chris and to listen to your body and that its okay to not push yourself if something hurts. It’s a hard concept when you always want to push yourself.

What is your most proud achievement at P360 so far?
My 250# deadlift for sure.

What’s the hardest thing you’ve done physically at the gym?
The one and only shred class I ever attended.

If money was no concern, what would be your dream job?
To own my own company that helped people in need.

Embarrassing fact most people don’t know?
When everyone at the gym thought I was married to Wade, to clarify, he is my BROTHER.

Hidden talent most people don’t know?
I don’t really have a hidden talent. But I’m really good at the beer soup game (where you put a full beer in a bowl and have to finish it using a spoon, haven’t lost yet!).

If you could teleport to any point in the past, where would you go?
Probably back to when my grandparents we’re alive since I never got to meet them.

Favorite naughty food?
Blueberry bagel with extra cream cheese. And Ben & Jerry’s, any flavor.

What’s the biggest overall improvement you have made since joining?
My progress in my kettlebell form, should have seen Robby’s face at my first kettlebell class, priceless.

What was your favorite cartoon growing up?
Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, I loved Minnie Mouse (one of my many nicknames).

Famous person you’d most like to have a drink with, and what drink would you buy them?
Princess Diana and a nice glass of Cab.

What’s a funny story from your childhood?
I’ve always had motion sickness. Once I went to the Rochester Fair and a boy from my class who I had a crush on was there with his family. He asked me to go on a ride that spun in circles with him and I couldn’t look silly and say no, so I went on it with him and when I stepped off I immediately vomited everywhere. All the boys in class on Monday were laughing at me :(.

Which public figure or celebrity would you like to put in a dunk tank?
Sorry, but Donald Trump.

You have one movie to take with you on a desert island. What is it?
Pride and Prejudice.

What is your biggest goal for the rest of 2016?
Work hard and get into level 2 for pull-ups and jumping.

A very big congratulations to Matt and Mindy! Make sure to give them a pat on the back next time you see them around Performance360.
