We’re back with another edition of Performance360 Members of the Month.
As always, the member of the month award is decided by our coaches getting together and nominating who stood out to us each in the areas of attitude, effort and performance. We take pride in our votes and take the handing out of member of the month quite seriously. To win it means an individual stood out above hundreds of other hard working folks and is truly deserving of the honor.
Congratulations to our runners up: Yuri Gorokhov, Karen Higareda.
Jon Robell
Jon is a very quiet, hard worker who rarely misses a day at the gym. He shows up with consistency to Daily Challenges and takes the full spectrum of specialty classes to compliment his knowledge. In January, Jon took every class that Performance360 has to offer. He is dropping weight and building his strength, recently making it into Level 1 and Level 2 Barbell Club.

How old are you and from where do you hail?
36, Born in Eugene, Oregon, raised in Ocean Beach, CA.
What do you do for work?
District Administrator in San Diego Unified School District supporting compliance and instruction for English Learners. Previously served as high school vice principal, after teaching mathematics, student leadership, and coaching wrestling – all within San Diego Unified.
What do you do for fun?
Hmmm, work? Ha! Outside of the daily grind my fun lies in spending time with the princess of my life. Bike rides on the boardwalk, or hiking Torrey Pines, Lisa and I love getting outside and enjoying San Diego lifestyle.
Describe how Performance360 has improved your life.
Working out has always been inconsistent, and another chore to fit into the week. Now, I’m anxious to fit in 2-a-days! P360 has changed my outlook – the uniqueness and challenge of each class in a total body workout keeps my ADHD in check. The camaraderie and good folk help keep me coming back too. It’s just a good place to be.
Favorite and least favorite exercise?
Love back squats, hate box jumps.
What’s the most valuable bit of coaching you’ve received at P360?
Take them heels off! You can’t deadlift on foam! -Coach Julianne.
What is your most proud achievement at P360 so far?
Structuring my schedule to attend DC five days a week, while understanding that I am continuing to grow and improve. It’s definitely about the process, and not always the outcome.
What’s the hardest thing you’ve done physically at the gym?
Time trial Fridays. I dread going; running always seems to slow down my time.
If money was no concern, what would be your dream job?
Designing and operating an atypical high school where student support services are endless – instructional, social/emotional, psychological , childcare – you name it, students’ needs at met. Personalization is an apparent part of the culture, where both faculty and staff feel a sense of family. Paid internships connect young adults to career exploration as well as college/tech campus. Yes, I’ve put much thought into this. Just need about $20 millon. Any sponsors?
Embarrassing fact most people don’t know?
After having two boys, my mom was praying for a baby girl. Needless to say, nearly all of my pictures during the first five years of my life have long curly blond hair!
Hidden talent most people don’t know?
Not American Idol, but I’ve had my rounds with a microphone.
If you were an ice cream flavor, what would you be and why?
Peanut Butter white chocolate macadamia fudge ice cream! Does that need an explanation? Its heaven in your mouth!
If you could teleport to any point in the past, where would you go?
Life seems as if it was so simple in the 50’s. Lose the technology and busyness of today, and so down to enjoy those around you.
Favorite naughty food?
HOT, out of the oven..COOKIES. Double chocolate, or white macadamia paired with a cold glass of milk.
What’s the biggest overall improvement you had made since joining?
Consistently eating healthy. This current 60-day challenge has me hooked. It helps have a roommate who loves to cook!
What was your favorite cartoon growing up?
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, heros in a half shell. Turtle power.
Famous person you’d most like to have a drink with, and what drink would you buy them?
Benjamin Franklin. Who wouldn’t want some benjamins??? Not only was he a ladies man, he’s a bad ass fool. He’d pick fights with the English, just to see how far they’d take it. Have you read his autobiography? He’s a man of many talents.
What’s a funny story from your childhood?
Funny or not, I’ve died three times, well flatlined. Lets just say my parents relaxed a bit with their supervision after having two other boys. They’re really are good parents, I promise!
(Editor’s note: Jon, we need more.)
Which public figure or celebrity would you like to put in a dunk tank?
Donald Trump.
You have one song and movie on a desert island. What are they?
Desparado. Goonies.
What is your biggest goal for the rest of 2015?
My eyes are set on Level 3 Barbell, but also increase mobility in my shoulders and upper body to pull off full ring kip mechanics. Coach Caitlin is a beast on them rings. Shes my idol!
Molly Powell
While Molly could win this award based purely on the fact she is eight months pregnant, our staff voted her female winner for January simply because she’s a great worker and has a great attitude. Inspired by P360 pregnant women before her, Molly decided her pregnancy would not slow her down and used her time as a way to ensure she could be as fit as possible before the baby arrives. In that time period, she has reached Level 1 Barbell Club and Level 2 Barbell Club. She continues to show up, safely push herself and ask questions about how she can improve.

Age, where are you from?
33, and a cheesehead from Milwaukee, WI
What do you do for work?
I’m currently transitioning from doing strategic marketing for a large corporation to owning/running my own integrative health coaching practice, being a consultant for Beautycounter, and a new mom!
What do you do for fun?
I love music—seeing it, playing it, listening to it. I also love anything that gets me outdoors—hiking, camping, backpacking, kayaking. I also love to travel, eat at new restaurants and of course hang out with family & friends.
Describe how Performance360 has improved your life.
P360 has allowed me to meet so many fantastic people that inspire me daily, helped me learn that I am capable of being both fast and strong, and have gotten me out of the same old cardio workout routine (rut). I’ve learned the value of setting goals and putting my energy towards achieving them through nothing more than showing up, working hard, and simply not letting fear into the equation, which has translated to all aspects of my life. Finally, P360 has been amazing while I’ve been pregnant. I really am not sure if I would’ve had the motivation to workout on my own (especially through the first trimester), but this community makes me look forward to—and even feel sad when I miss—my workouts. I’d even go so far as to say y’all have helped my marriage, because regular workouts helped my hormones stay somewhat stable and kept my energy up through the pregnancy, which makes everyone happy.
Favorite and least favorite exercise?
My favorite would have to be jerks (split jerks, to be specific). I would NEVER have thought that to be the case if you asked me a year ago, but the little meathead in me that has surfaced just kinda feels like a badass doing them. I also love RKB swings. My least favorite is the box jump…I hit my shins so badly on a few missed attempts and now I’m psyching myself out. But after the baby is born, I’m going to work on them and get over it.
What’s the most valuable bit of coaching you’ve received at P360?
Wow there’s been so many valuable things from every single coach for every single move…. If I had to pick I would say Julianne telling me to aggressively drive my head through on my jerks; that really helped my ability to lift more weight.
What is your most proud achievement at P360 so far?
Honestly, finding out about being Member of the Month was a pretty proud moment for me, because there are so many amazingly kickass members at this fine gym. But also getting to Barbell Level 2 8-months pregnant was a very proud moment and something I worked very hard to achieve.
What’s the hardest thing you’ve done physically at the gym?
Running the timed mile under 6:30. Or basically any shred class.
If money was no concern, what would be your dream job?
I honestly can say the career path I’m going down now is my dream job (it’s certainly not for the money). But I also secretly would love to be a singer in a band.
Embarrassing fact most people don’t know?
I still have my baby blanket. It’s really creepy, I know.
Hidden talent most people don’t know?
I play the guitar and sing pretty decently.
If you were an ice cream flavor, what would you be and why?
I guess B&J’s Phish Food because it’s my favorite, and because it’s the best of everything.
If you could teleport to any point in the past, where would you go?
I’ve always been fascinated with ancient Egypt. I’d like to see HOW they built those pyramids! Plus, they invented beer…
Favorite naughty food?
PIZZA.
What’s the biggest overall improvement you had made since joining?
Physically, I’d have to say my overall athleticism. I used to only do long cardio (running, swimming or elliptical), which in no way helped me be faster, stronger, and more agile all in one package. I feel like I’ve made huge improvements to all of those areas in just one & ½ years.
What was your favorite cartoon growing up?
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!
Famous person you’d most like to have a drink with, and what drink would you buy them?
Bob Dylan & a Sazerac.
What’s a funny story from your childhood?
When I was a kid, I sucked at soccer so bad, but I forced myself to play because all of my friends were on the team. The coach would always put me on defense, as I could maybe kick the ball once, but ‘dribbling’ multiple times down the field? Forget it. (Just to set the stage, at about the same time in my life, I also had cut my hair into a mullet and then permed it, had HUGE round, gold rimed glasses, and had a penchant for windsuits with turtlenecks, was a tad overweight and overall very uncoordinated. I suppose you could say my “awkward stage.”) However during this one game, as luck would have it, I had the chance for a breakaway and took it. There I went down the field all the way from our goal, fast approaching the opponent’s goal and not an opponent in sight. I GOT this, I told myself! Until suddenly I tripped on something (I’m pretty sure it was my own foot, or the ball, or both) and completely ate it…the ball rolling ever so gently into the hands of the goalie. I was devastated at the time, but now my friends and I still get a pretty good ‘kick’ outta that story.
Which public figure or celebrity would you like to put in a dunk tank?
I suppose right now it would have to be Donald Trump.
You have one song and movie on a desert island. What are they?
China Cat Sunflower>I Know You Rider by the Grateful Dead (I know, that’s kind of cheating since its really 2 songs) and The Big Lebowski. I will never get sick of either.
What is your biggest goal for the rest of 2016?
My biggest goal is to have my first child and keep her alive while trying to get some sleep and not go insane. But seriously, to be a great parent, live in the moment & take in as much as I possibly can, and enjoy my marriage and family. I also want to see my business succeed and keep up my fitness!
Congratulations to both Jon and Molly. Make sure to congratulate both when you see them in class!
