Is Truth the Foundation To Your Goals?
How many times have you set out on an ambitious goal only to see your outcome not match up with your vision? We didn’t want it badly enough, right? We lacked motivation as many outsiders would likely conclude. High end achievers are so often tabbed as highly motivated when I don’t particularly buy that. Not for a second, really. The thin line between those who succeed and those who has so much more to do with truth and introspection than it does motivation.
Those who succeed are usually asking better questions of themselves that more properly align with their behaviors.
Am I likely to go to the gym everyday, or just twice a week?
Am I likely to eat 100% of my meals at home, or just 80%
Am I likely to give up drinking, or just keep it to once week?
So often, despite absolutely nothing in our history that points to doing so, we set our sights on the highest level of action. Why? Because we think that’s necessary to be successful? Says who? The reality is that you can crush goals with steady, moderate action. You can drop pounds of fat with 80% of your meals at home. You can get fit with two focused workouts per week. You can make major physique changes without giving up alcohol completely.
But because we:
- Aren’t truthful to ourselves about what we’re historically likely to do
- Have been mislead that we need 100% adherence to things
We tend to fail.
Truth is everything. If you don’t tell it to yourself, you’re constantly going to see your circumstances for what you want them to be, not for what they are, and you’ll plan poorly.
Only when you are truthful and realistic with yourself about what is can you begin to formulate a plan to get yourself to what isn’t. Lying about your circumstance in the name of optimism is weekend motivational speaking garbage.
Be honest about what is. Have faith that modest action change over time can get you there.
