FRI: Are You Weakness-ing Your Strengths to Death?

Everywhere you look there are gurus and self help readily available to help you tackle your weaknesses.

For a long time, I fell into that thinking. That I was so woefully deficient in certain areas, I had to address them otherwise there would be a gaping void in what I could offer my environment.

However, a funny thing can happen if you get so caught up in addressing your weaknesses. One day, you might wake up and realize that you’ve completely muzzled the strengths that have made you successful.

I firmly believe we should always seek improvement in areas that limit our growth, but never at the cost of your natural you, and never ignited by what or how you perceive yourself should be. Only raw, undeniable feedback that’s stifling your growth.

Not a fairy tale version of yourself.

The better move is to compliment and surround yourself with people who are good at what you aren’t, yin to your yang, and skill sets where you are inferior.

Otherwise, take it from me. You’ll just end up a suppressed mess of kinda and sorta, an anxious actor playing a stage part.

Bet on your strengths, be aware of your weaknesses, and don’t second guess.
