Don’t Fill Up on Chips n’ Salsa
You take your seat, you’re eyeing up the menu and the entree that you want to order. Then, the server brings out the most deadly item of the evening, the chips n’ salsa. You start inhaling it by the minute and before you know it, you’re pushing it away and feel like you don’t even really want your entree anymore. What you came for ruined by the distracting appetizer.
If we’re not careful, we can do the same thing in the gym with our fitness efforts. Never forget what drives adaptation and the physical re-composition of your body. Strength and muscle, not an exhaustive calorie count. Big, compound movements. Squats, cleans, deadlifts, rows, presses, lunges, and all of their iterations and different ways we can perform them.
The entree.
In reality, chips and salsa would be everything else. We’re not saying to ignore it, hell we’re programming it and we don’t program movements that don’t drive some form of adaptation, but it’s not the reason you should be there. Said more directly, never ignore the main stuff because you’re just antsy to move fast and elevate your heart rate. That’s the gym version of filling up on chips.
Enjoy, just don’t stuff.
