Day-to-Day Mistakes to Avoid Making in the Gym (Micro)
We have our macro approach, which is month-over-month, year-over-year, and we have our daily micro approach. While it’s important for your micro habits to support your macro goals, there are some pitfalls we all want to avoid in our daily behavior.
Being Volume Obsessed
Yes, some days we set out to accumulate more volume than others, but to treat either tier with the primary goal being to accumulate as many reps as possible as your foundational approach everyday is not smart. Getting results is a bit of a Goldilocks approach, can’t be too light, can’t be too heavy, needs to be just right. If you find yourself never needing a break and wishing workouts were longer, you’re going too light, friend. Conversely, if you’re huffing and puffing between every minute and not getting anything done, you’re going too heavy.
There are no points for getting in a ton of reps that don’t challenge you.
Going Too Light on Kettlebell Swings
I think most people go one to two sizes too light. See yesterday’s post about all of the opportunities we have to build our fitness and physique with the swing. Grab a heavier bell and see very fast results from it.
Sloppy Plyometrics
Explode! Put some heart into it! Plyometrics can devolve into Jane Fonda aerobics real quick if we’re just going through the motions.
