Coach’s Lab 8: Fix Your Hip Angle to Improve Stroke Economy

One of the most common mistakes that we see are athletes who break their hips open way too early. In the transition from the catch to the drive, many athletes will open up early, which causes a bleed in power, slower time, and higher fatigue rate.

Your hips should only open at the very end of the drive.

Fault: Hips open prematurely

Fix: Stay upright on the initial phase of the drive
