Autogenic Training and Feedforwarding

The walkthrough is a critical part of preparing you for class not only so that you understand what the workout entails, it’s purpose, benefits, and primary points of performance, but it also serves as an invaluable tool to help you associate correct movement pattern and execution. Specifically, in the form of what’s called autogenic training and feedforwarding.

The science is this: brain activity precedes movement, so it is super important that proper visuals are bestowed upon you before class. Monkey hear + monkey see = monkey do. By providing you an effective auditory cue (“snapping your hips”) while at the same time demonstrating how to do it, we are setting you up to be an in autogenic training state, whereby performing the correct movement pattern is less about thinking and more about doing. Just like how providing feedback after something is effective for improvement, so too is providing feedback before it occurs so that you eliminate mistakes before they happen. Known as feedforwarding.

This isn’t to say that observing a coach performing movement and active listening is true autogenic training, but it’s within the family of visualizing execution before attempting it, and it’s highly effective in all forms. 65% of the population are visual learners, most of us are without realizing it.

We spend significant time as a culture at P360 prioritizing a highly effective prep phase and our Coaches take a lot of pride in perfecting theirs. It’s the easiest and most concentrated way to get great Coaching in your class without lifting a finger.
